New MINI Coupé

MINI is expanding its product family with the launch of the MINI Coupé geared squarely to maximising driving fun. The first two-seater in its current line-up sees MINI not only breathe new life into its successful racing history but also provide a shot in the arm for the super-compact sports car class. The MINI Coupé can be ordered with the most powerful petrol and diesel engines in the brand’s arsenal. Outputs range from the 90 kW/122 hp of the MINI Cooper Coupé, to the MINI Cooper SD Coupé (105 kW/143 hp) and MINI Cooper S Coupé (135 kW/184 hp), all the way up to the MINI John Cooper Works Coupé producing 155 kW/211 hp.

This design study for a premium-class 2+2-seater is the embodiment of a passion for aesthetics and dynamics. Flowing lines and aesthetically sculpted surfaces define the design of the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé, in which classic BMW coupé styling cues are given a modern rendition. Among the innovative details featured in this concept study are full LED headlights and a newly designed, freestanding Control Display for the iDrive operating system.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe

We had the pleasure of taking the new Hyundai Genesis Coupe for a spin recently. After our extremely positive experiences with the Hyundai Genesis Sedan, our expectation were naturally set quite high and although we did come away with a positive verdict in general, there are still areas in which we think the Genesis Coupe should definitely improve if Hyundai wants to play in the same league of the big boys in this segment.

2009 VW Pasat CC

The Volkswagen Passat CC follows the directions set by Mercedes’ CLS a couple of years ago, for a 4 seater, 4 door coupe version of a sedan, aiming at a more sporty image. The Passat has a coupe-like profile and a long sloping tail, and does indeed not have a large hatch at the back, preventing it from being associated with a normal 5 door hatchback.

Leaving out the hatch has the obvious advantage that the headroom in the rear would not have to be sacrificed for the mechanics of the hatch, and the Passat thankfully does provide enough headroom.. and legroom for that matter. In our test of the Brabus CLS it was so bltantly clear that the Mercedes did not have any useful space in the back at all, not even for small children, and the Passat learned from this mistake. It does have the coupe shape but does also have the 4 seating spaces.
