We finally got to try out the Infiniti M56, basically the top of the Inifiniti car line up in the US. The exterior design of the M56 depicts the latest iteration of the Infiniti  design language which shows more risky surfacing throughout, and stylization of details throughout. The original Infiniti design language was very much based on the art of leaving out, as shown by consultant designers from Porsche Style. The “brush stroke” advertizing gave us an indication where Infiniti was intending to evolve. Continue Reading…

We were at the introduction of the Infiniti EX35 back at Pebble Beach in 2007, and were interested to see how it had faired through the times passed. It is surprisingly up-to-date still, despite the 4 years of aging it has endured, and still is a harmonious  and timeless design, proving that there is something to be set for balance, and the art of leaving out. Text and photos by Cornelis Steenstra

A whole mouth full, Infiniti G37 Coupe 20th Anniversary Edition, and no, the Infiniti Coupe is not 20 years old, but rather the brand Infiniti is, and this special edition coupe is a worthy commemorative effort to celebrate that fact. Compared to the normal G37 Coupe we tested earlier in the year, the version comes equipped with several exterior body enhancements that have since found its way into the special options section for the Infiniti Coupe. Under the hood the car has been equipped with clearly more horsepower and a very gritty power train coupled with excellent suspension, that provides both power and speed, without compromising on creature comfort.

Infiniti Releases Sketch of Future Luxury Electric Vehicle

Infiniti_EV_Sketch

Infiniti today released a sketch of its first luxury electric vehicle, which is set to launch in the United States and other global markets in 2013. Befitting the brand’s promise of “Inspired Performance,” the Infiniti EV will be a stylish, high performance five-seat luxury vehicle with zero emissions technology.

“This future EV will play a major part of Infiniti’s ‘eco performance’ strategy that will see a greater focus on hybrid and EV technology,” said Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore. “We are committed to applying the world’s best technologies to reduce emissions without sacrificing driving excitement or engagement – a pledge that will become more evident soon with the upcoming introduction of our new Infiniti M Hybrid.”

The 2012 Infiniti M35h, which features Infiniti’s Direct Response Hybrid technology, makes its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. The M Hybrid is based on the popular Infiniti M sedan and promises V8 performance with 4-cylinder fuel economy from a 302-horsepower (est.) 3.5-liter V6 supported by a 50 kW (67 horsepower est.) electric motor. Dubbed “the driver’s hybrid,” the M35h will be able to be driven on electric power alone at speeds up to 50 miles per hour. The compact Lithium-ion battery pack design also allows use of a spacious passenger cabin and ample trunk capacity.

“The new Infiniti M Hybrid changes the rules, achieving excellent fuel economy while delivering the exhilarating driving performance expected of a luxury sports sedan,” added Poore.

The Infiniti M35h will be available at Infiniti retailers in the United States in spring 2011.

Infiniti G37 Convertible

crw_3435

Infiniti has been chasing down its Lexus competitor for many years now with a product palette that closely resembles the latter. When Lexus brought out its IS Convertible in the course of 2009, it was therefore inevitable that Infiniti would soon follow suit.

We have driven this Infiniti G37 Convertible, which features, like its Lexus counterpart, the much used retractable hardtop principle first shown on the Mercedes SLK in the early 1990′s. The Infiniti version of this hardtop does indeed perform really well in its closed version. We were unfortunate in our planning that we had the Infiniti right at the time Southern California went through its most severe downpoor season in memory, which meant we were driving the car in closed version quite a lot.

2009 Infiniti FX35

FX35017 By Cor Steenstra, Photography Christopher Jones, Model Radeyah

When the first Infiniti FX was introduced as a concept it stunned me. It was so different, so unique, and yet devoid of any “Lexus-like” styling gimmicks, so clean and original, that it became truly a car to take not of as a designer. It’s design influenced a lot of other vehicles, but not within theInfiniti brand surprisingly, because it could have easily been a very good base for the brand identity of Infiniti. So I was left wondering what would be next for the FX series.

It is scheduled to go on sale at Infiniti dealers in North America in the spring of 2009, followed later in other Infiniti markets around the world.

“Designed to rejuvenate the spirit, the G Convertible adds an open-air soundtrack to the G’s legendary driving exhilaration,” said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, speaking before automotive media at the vehicle’s world debut. “This new G has dual beauty – it looks as good with the top up or down – along with a beautiful, leather-appointed interior that is meant to be experienced wide-open.”

The new G Convertible offers a three-piece folding steel top and a special convertible-focused interior, which features a unique Bose® Open Air Sound System that dynamically changes equalization based on outside noise, vehicle speed, and top position, and an adaptive climate control system that adjusts fan speed in accordance to top position and vehicle speed.

Every 2009 G Convertible comes equipped with an advanced 3.7-liter V6 rated at 325 horsepower. The engine is backed by a choice of an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic transmission with available magnesium paddle shifters or a responsive close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission.

Technology features include standard RearView Monitor and an available touch-screen Infiniti Navigation system with XM NavTraffic® Real-Time Traffic information with 9.3GB Music Box Hard Drive, Pre-Crash Seat Belts, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with Preview Braking and Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS).

The G Convertible is offered in two models: the G37 Convertible and the G37S Convertible Sport 6MT, which adds sport-tuned steering and larger sport brakes, along with 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and W-rated performance tires.

Also available is a special, limited production G Convertible Premier Edition, offered exclusively through the Bloomingdale’s Holiday Catalog. With only 200 being built, the Premier Edition features a custom Monaco Red Leather leather-appointed interior, handcrafted red-tone Maple Wood trim, Midnight Black front grille and 9-spoke 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and tires. Pre-orders for the Premier Edition are being taken now for delivery in 2009.

The Infiniti display at the Los Angeles Auto Show also showcases the complete line of 2009 Infiniti vehicles, including the all-new Infiniti G37x Coupe with intelligent all-wheel drive, the new G37 Sedan with a 328-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 and a new, more powerful M35 rear-wheel drive sedan.
