Changing over from the Mitsubishi Lancer 5 door to this Outlander was a true relief, after experiencing our scary acceleration problems there. The Outlander was NORMAL.. It worked well, accelerated as expected, slightly under power for the weight of the vehicle, but without problem. In actual fact, we were quite surprised by the fit and finish of the Outlander with very nice leather trim and in that very nice stitching details even on the instrument panel.

Mitsubishi Lancer 5dr RalliArt… a scary experience..

LancerWagon025

We wanted to write this article describing a sporty and fun car with a lot of flexibility, agility and spunk, a car you could race around town with, bring your kids to school do the shopping, drive to Vegas, all of that and never look bad. A dynamic sporty good looking car. Instead we have to start with the gynormous LAG this car has in the low power range. This is just really pathetic and even dangerous.

Standing at a traffic light you expect this car… well basically any car to start moving forward as you press the throttle, and this one especially since it so closely related to the all conquering Lancer EVO X… So what happens… NOTHING.. the car slowly luls away.. and then, about 3 second into it, after out of sheer frustration you have floored the pedal, the thing just flies uncontrollably forward. Now imagine doing this while you are getting a green light at a normal corner… and in the corner this thing just suddenly gets totally out of control..

2009 Mitsubishi Evo 10

2009_Mitsubishi_Evo_239.jpg Ever since the introduction of the latest Mitsubishi Lancer have we been looking forward to getting our hands on the Evo X. With lots of teaser pictures and motor show presence, we knew it was something different, and when we finally did get our hands on it, we were proven right.

Coming to our fleet right after the iconic Muscle Car Dodge Challenger RT, with its vast amount of cubic inches, brute exhaust noise and intimidating presence, the Mitsubishi was definitely more restrained, more sophisticated, refined… How’s that for a brute rally monster? Yes, it is all that… and then when you drive it it outperforms the beast easily, hands down, so much so that it is almost embarrassing.

Mitsubishi Closes its European and US design and R&D facilities

We are saddened to report that Mitsubishi Motors has anounced that it will close both its North American and its European Design and R&D facilities. All personnel will be laid off. In an already troubled automotive industry, this is yet another blow that rocks the core, and indicates that there is no sign of a recovery anytime soon.

Mitsubishi had been in trouble ever since it was let go out of the Daimler organization, and their production cars were definetly aging, but Mitsubishi does have a line up of electric vehicles in its Japanese production that were ready to be brought to market in Europe and the US. Mitsubishi was a leader in that respect, and the closure announcements today indicate that even companies with a good vision have to face the reality of these dire times.

We wish everyone affected by this all the best. The tides will change.
