2012 Ferrari 458 Italia

Gran Turismo 5

Text and photos by Cor Steenstra

Following up on our previous posting, we now bring you the Ferrari 458 Italia in the same set up as we did the Lamborghini. Since there is no real chance to experience the real car, this is for now the best alternative.

Ever since the late 1975 introduction on the Ferrari 308 GTB I have felt passionately for that 8 cylinder mid-engine 2 seats sport car, and although it went through various guises through the years, most of them were the strongest designs within the Ferrari line up at their time period. So too is this 458 Italia.

2012 Lamborghini Aventador

Gran Turismo 5

Car Design TV is aimed at car designers and car design enthusiasts, and although we think this is the most important group to target, it is clearly a niche market. It is therefore that we don’t get as many viewers as the main stream sites that quote details straight from brochures, and proclaim acceleration and top speed test that are both illegal, and that no normal car buyer will ever be able to achieve. It is because of that that we don’t have major sponsors to the site, and also that some brands do not provide us the vehicles you would really want us to show you.

Now we can wait until the “word” gets out by you guys, our loyal readers/viewers, and we do create a big following, but we like to take some pro-active action ourselves. We went and bought some of the cars we want to show you, cars we are passionate about, and cars we simply think are interesting and out of our reach. That would have cost us a pretty capital, and we did not have that, but we do have GT5 on PS3. So here is the first of our evaluations done through that medium, the Lamborghini Aventador, with an extensive gallery to boot. Continue Reading…

New Years Special: Red Bull X1 – X2010

Red_Bull_X2010_X1_002

I meant to write and post this article in time for New Years Eve, but I had difficulty getting hold of the car. I could not go through the usual channels, since this car only exists in the virtual world of Gran Turismo 5 on Playstation, and as such I had to actually physically win this version. I was aiming to buy the car in orange or matt black, and at 20,000,000 credits I had enough money, but I was not at level 40 in the game yet, so I was not allowed to buy it. Instead I won it by reaching level 35. It was really tough and hard work, so I hope you appreciate my effort in getting this here for you.

All kidding aside, there is a good logic behind me wanting to feature the Red Bull X1, recently renamed to Red Bull X2010 (hinting there might be a 2011 car in the making). The Red Bull X1 is an extreme car, an F1 car sans regulations, taking the boundaries and possibilities of F1 to the limits it never reached after banning the Gordon Murray designed Brabham BT48 fan car.
